Tasks for Six to Eight-Year-Olds

  • Decorate baked goods or garnish food
  • Help plan the meal
  • Cut out cookies or help to roll the dough
  • Find ingredients
  • Make a salad

Tasks for Nine to Twelve-Year-Olds

  • Open cans or containers
  • Use a microwave oven to heat foods
  • Prepare simple recipes with few ingredients
  • Use an oven (with supervision)
  • Use a knife (with supervision)
  • Use a cheese shredder or cut up vegetables

Tasks for Thirteen to Sixteen-Year-Olds

  • Put together recipes with multiple ingredients
  • Blend ingredients in a bowl or use an electric mixer
  • Put together recipes independently (it's always a good thing for you to be at home until they've shown you they can do it)
  • Skewer vegetables and meat on kabobs
  • Help write a meal plan for the week
