Keeping Food Safe: Shopping Tips

Tips for Shopping

  • Don't buy packages of food that are torn or leaking.
  • Don't buy food that is near or past the "sell by" or "use by" dates.
  • Put raw meat and poultry into a plastic bag so meat juices won't touch other foods.
  • Pick up refrigerated or frozen foods last, right before checking out.
  • When putting food in your car, keep refrigerated foods inside the air-conditioned car, instead of in the trunk. Drive straight home from the grocery store.
