Tips: Healthy Eating on a Budget

Budget friendly lunchbox treats

  • Cut cookies into shapes with small cookie cutters, bake brownies in a mini-muffin pan, cut sandwiches into four pieces.
  • Make your own juice boxes with pop-up water bottles. Add seltzer water for a “juice cocktail.”
  • Build your own munch-a-lunches with ham and cheese slices, crackers, cookies and fruit.
  • Send fruit along with a dip of plain low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese mixed with apricot jam.
  • Send veggies along with low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese mixed with a little bit of ranch dressing mix.
  • Send peanut butter with pretzels and celery.
  • Avoid fruit gummy things. Real fruit is cheaper and healthier.
  • Mix raisins, dried apples, or apricots with nuts. Add a few chocolate chips or M&M’s.
