Don't get me wrong, I'm always taking the steps but if there is a elavator available at that time then i'll take it.

The rule that I have heard is "one up, two down" (take the stairs if you're going one flight up or two flights down). But I follow a two up, two down rule whenever I can. It doesn't take any more time, and it feels kind of good (as long as you're in comfy shoes!).
