Meals on a Budget

Eating a balanced and healthy diet does not have to be expensive.  There are lots of ways to shop for healthy foods and save money at the grocery store.  Here are some helpful tips to get you started:  

  • Start with the store circular or coupons.       See what is currently on sale and build your meals around sale items.  
  • Plan meals ahead of time.  Try having a plan when going to the grocery store.  Plan out meals on your day off and have a grocery list to help you save money and not purchase extra items.
  • Check the unit prices.  See what brand is cheaper based on the unit price to save money.
  • Buy in bulk when possible.  Foods that are shelf-stable can be purchased when they are on sale.  Buying in bulk allows you have groceries on hand and may reduce your trips to the grocery store.
